How to Win More Money in Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the world's most popular casino games, and for good reason. Blackjack offers some of the best odds of winning in a casino. Unlike roulette or craps where you have to rely on sheer luck to win, you can actually control your chances of winning in blackjack by using skill and strategy. If you are good enough with your blackjack skills you can even make a nice profit off the blackjack tables.

A fundamental blackjack strategy that can improve your chances of winning is to "mimic" or follow the dealer or by following the rules of the casino for the dealer. If the house tells the dealer to hit on a soft 17, then you should follow suit. Since an ace can be counted as either 1 or 11, a soft 17 is a hand with an ace counted as 11 (6+11). A hard 17, on the other hand, is counted as 1 or when the dealer takes another card such as a 10 to come up with a 17 (6+1+10).

Most casinos force the dealer to hit on a soft 17 because taking another card will improve his hand, making it difficult for the players to better that hand. Instead of having to beat a 17, they will have to deal with a 20 or 21. Your goal is to beat the dealer without going bust, so the best way to do that is to mimic the dealer and follow the house rules on soft and hard hands. These methods work for the casino, they should work for you, too.

Another proven strategy in blackjack is to always assume the dealer's down card to be a 10. This strategy is based on the assumption that if the dealer has a card of 6 or lower, he might take another card to improve his hand. If the dealer gets a 7, the dealer's hand may get busted or the player will be closer to 21 than him.

You should also split on aces or 8's regardless of the dealer's up card and avoid splitting on 10's, 4's, 5's and face cards. You should remember to stand on a hard 12 if the dealer has a 4, 5 or 6 and to hit if the dealer shows a 2, 3, 7 or higher.

There are several other blackjack strategies aside from the ones mentioned. Most strategies are based on statistical data and will tell you when and which hands to hit or stand on based on the dealer's up card. You can search for them on the Internet or buy a reliable book on blackjack strategies from your local or online bookstore.

Another way to improve your chances of winning is to utilize card counting skills, if you have any. Card counting is very difficult and only the blackjack pros can get away with it. Card counting can also get you kicked out of a casino, so it's not recommended for beginners.
